Former President Trump attacked the work of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at a rally supporting several candidates in Arizona on Friday.  Trump held a rally in Prescott Valley to support his endorsed candidate for governor, Kari Lake, and his endorsed candidate for Senate, Blake Masters. During his speech, he said he was watching the committee’s most recent hearing on Thursday, which focused on Trump’s actions as the riot took place at the Capitol building, and called it a “hoax.”  Trump also denied testimony that Cassidy Hutchinson, a former top aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, gave to the committee last month.  Hutchinson said Tony Ornato, Trump’s deputy chief of staff at the time, told her about an incident in the presidential vehicle on Jan. 6 in which Trump became heated when he was told he could not go to the Capitol following his speech at the Ellipse that day. She said Ornato told her that Trump attem...

Cristiano Ronaldo faces an uncertain future after the Manchester United striker’s attempt to force his way out of Old Trafford failed to spark the expected rush for his signature. The Portugal superstar shocked United earlier this month with his bombshell exit request after the team’s failure to qualify for the Champions League. Ronaldo would have anticipated a host of top clubs jostling to sign him. But for the first time in his glittering career he is no longer a must-have item for Europe’s wealthy elite as Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain all appear to have turned their backs on the forward. Concerns over Ronaldo’s declining work-rate and his notoriously demanding personality have left the 37-year-old in limbo. Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly was reported to have spoken to Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes about a deal to mark the new era at Stamford Bridge. But Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is believed to have concerns about trying to integrate Ronaldo into his plans fo...

R Kelly was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 years in prison, after the multi-platinum R&B singer's conviction for exploiting his stardom and wealth over decades to lure women and underage girls for sex.  Kelly was convicted last September after a five-and-a-half week trial over accusations that had dogged the singer of the Grammy-winning hit I Believe I Can Fly since the early 2000s. He is among the most prominent people convicted of sexual misbehaviour during the #MeToo movement. Earlier on Wednesday, women who testified against Kelly during the trial spoke about how he had promised to mentor them and help them to attain stardom, only to subject them to degrading sexual treatment and physical harm. Many said the abuse led to mental health problems that persist. The sentence was imposed by US District Judge Ann Donnelly in Brooklyn Federal Court. A large, bearded man with wraparound sunglasses stands at the entrance of the Jackson Women’s Health Organisation, Mississippi’s last abortion clinic, and screams at a woman as she is driven into the clinic's car park.  “This is murder,” he yells. “You’re going to perish without the mercy of God.” He has draped a towel over his head to protect himself from the heat and humidity that envelop Jackson at this time of year. As he shouts Biblical scriptures, a woman wearing a rainbow-coloured jacket that reads “clinic escort” steps in front of him and holds a large mirror up to his face. On it, she has written: “You, yelling at women.” “Do you like how you look, Allan?” she asks. The two know each other by name. Following the US Supreme Court ruling last week that overturned Roe v Wade, a 1973 law that legalised abortion, Mississippi and other conservative states have moved quickly to enact bans on the procedure. Jens Stoltenberg is a man for a crisis, something of a prerequisite for the role of secretary general of the military alliance Nato. He has used all his experience after nearly two decades at the top table of world politics, honed in two stints as prime minister of Norway, to steer Nato through the rough seas it has faced under his leadership. Nato’s world leaders underlined their faith in him by asking him to extend his eight-year tenure by another year after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. In so doing, Mr Stoltenberg, 63, gave up his long-held desire to become chairman of his native Norway’s central bank. The situation had given him "no choice" he said at the time, and felt it was the most important thing he could do with his life. The reason why the US, French, German and British leaders asked him to continue was clear on Tuesday evening, as he calmly sat on a stool for 30 minutes being questioned over a range of issues at the Nato forum in Madrid. Hidden calories and food loaded with unseen fats are big contributors to weight gain, according to nutritionists.  From karak chai to sandwiches and smoothies, everyday foods often seen as healthy alternatives can have as much salt, sugar and fat as some of the most common fast-food staples. Typically, the recommended daily calorie intake for the average woman is about 2,000, while men, who are usually bigger, need about 2,500 calories from food each day to convert into energy. “People count calories, but not always the nutrients,” said Ilse Onderweegs, a nutritionist at ICO Healthy Living in Dubai.
